Ali was born on December 29, 2003...
On march 3rd 2004 Alissa was taken to the emergency room she had been showing signs for weeks that she was ill but her doctor wasn't listening ...
After two hours of pleading with the emergency room staff they gave Ali a cat-scan.. they found she had a large tumor( half the size of her brain)
within ten minutes Ali and her family were in a helicopter on the way to children’s hospital of Oakland.
They had put Ali on steroids and after two days of waiting she under went her first surgery ( she was given a 2 % chance of survival).. 14 hours later she was out and alive.
She spent most of the next three weeks in the ICU.
She finally got to go home right before Easter that year….
For the next two and a half years Ali went through every treatment possible.. Her tumors multiplied and grew faster after each surgery. She had 5 brain surgeries... 22 rounds of Chemo, some of the rounds were 5 drugs at a time.. Chemo didn't touch her tumors so she endured a stem cell transplant.. It failed so she was left with only radiation... eight weeks straight of radiation... the radiation seemed to have cured her, in fact she went 9 months cancer free.. That was a huge leap for Ali.. but in Sept. 2006 Ali's MRI (# 56) showed over 40 small tumors...two weeks later there were two hundred more.. Ali passed on October 23, 2006. While Ali spent most of her life in a hospital.. She was always full of life and smiling.. Ali was a big brown eyed beauty with a smile that burns into your soul and melts your heart all at once!
-~Alissa’s Cancer was never given a Name infact it is the only one of it's kind... (In cancer terms it is closest to PNET tumor but twice as aggressive.)
Though Ali’s story is a sad one, yes she lost her battle.. But it is not over, her family and friends continue to do what she would want them to do.. Keep Fighting until we find the cure for ALL Childhood Cancers, but better yet...with an Angel smiling down on all of us, guiding from up above.. giving so much Strength and reassuring us that there is Hope!
You see, this is more than just a sad story.. its a story of:
"Love, Hope, Strength & Courage"
You can see and feel the love this family shared with this precious Angel... a love to last beyond a lifetime. Though the family hurts.. the love they have inside, so deep, is so strong they are not willing to give up! They live on.. though at times its hard... but thinking of Ali comes first, doing what Ali would want them to do.. carry on, live life, fulfilling dreams.. and most of all ~ continuing the fight that Ali started!! Carry on her legacy.
Ali was very little, not living a very long life.. and as you read above.. most of her time was spent being sick in a hospital... but yet every chance she had she was smiling... Her strength... her Courage shines through those big brown eyes... Spreading Love and Hope. I find it so unreal how a child can endure so much but yet live to the fullest during her time here... she truly was an Angel here on Earth and now in Heaven.
I have a picture of Ali on my desk, I see it everyday.. and that little face warms my heart and touch's my soul.. reminding me.. there are so many children out there who are still fighting, who need our help in this fight.. wether it be prayers, support, fundraising.. no matter what.. we can all take a stand!
Please take a moment to light a candle to Honor Ali's memory and say a prayer for the family...
